The Timberland Company was founded by Nathan Swartz and his sons in 1973 after Nathan Swartz bought the company where he first worked as an apprentice stitcher. Timberland was the first to introduce the innovative injection-molding technology in the footwear industry. This technology enabled the production of waterproof boots by connecting the leather uppers and the soles without stitching. Under the helm of Sidney Swartz, one of Nathan's sons, Timberland added clothing, women's shoes and other accessories as well.
